Fall De-cluttering: Cleaning Time for renters

Property Management Blog

Seasons keep on changing after every few months. So as fall is knocking at doors, it means we should get ready for the winters. The weather will be cold and wet, and everyone has to go inside for a longer time. So when we talk about home cleaning, this is the Best Time to de-clutter the house and rearrange things.

Fall cleaning is essential for renters, particularly those who live in tiny houses. They may need space to host parties for the upcoming festive season. If you have already cleaned the space, things will be easy to manage. Then, when the weather turns cold, your home will feel cozy and clean. Here are a few tips which can help you de-clutter your house without getting into trouble.

Re-gift unnecessary things

First of all, separate those things which you don’t need. You can add those items too which you don’t like and do not want to use again. Then, re-gift these things to someone who needs them or will love to use this stuff. Usually, we don't use the stuff we get as a gift from relatives, which is not according to our taste. You can get these things to others, who may like them and use them. You can free a lot of space just by re-gifting this kind of stuff.

Change things according to season.

We use a lot of stuff in summer, which we don't need in winter and fall. For instance, T-shirts, shorts, and summer caps can be rearranged at the back of the closet, and fall clothes can be hung properly. Similarly, beach toys and towels can also be stored properly, and you can keep rain boots and umbrellas in the same place. You can do the same for the kitchen as well. For example, remove the dishes you use for salads and ice creams, and you can replace them with soup bowls. You can also sore your picnic baskets now, as you will not need them for the next few months. When you do this, you will find some items that were not used throughout the season, even once. It means you don’t need these things, and you can re-gift them or dispose of them off, according to their nature. Then, when the space is empty, you can keep those things you need more here and use them frequently.

Sort out Toys

When your children have a lot of toys, they get confused and often get distracted. They try to play with all of them and often create a big mess, which gives a gruesome look. If you keep things simple, it will be easier for kids. When they have fewer options, they concentrate on them and play for a longer time. So, it would help if you did the segregation first. Separate the broken toys and those which have missing pieces. You can dispose of them. Then, make a section of valuable toys that your children don't like to play with or are not needed anymore. You can give these toys to other children, who will love to play with them. You can arrange the rest of the toys in the playing space properly. It will allow you to think about the following toy your child may need.

Be honest about your current activities

We keep a lot of stuff in our homes about those activities which we loved ones. But now, we have no items and no interest in them. So, when you are de-cluttering, be honest with yourself; when you see those things which you do not use currently, get rid of them. Your precious space should be taken up by items that are important for you now. You can donate these things or even sell them to the store, which buys pre-loved items. These sores are a great help, as you can buy them later from the same stores when you need them again. We have a lot of stuff in our home related to our hobbies, like baking dishes, fishing rods, and painting aisles. But now we are too busy for these hobbies, or we are not interested in them. So, there is no shame in selling these items.

Get a helping hand

De-cluttering is not simple and easy. You may need help, particularly if you have small children at home. If you regularly sort things out, you can do it quickly, but if you don't do it regularly, you will need help. You can ask someone from the family, or a friend can come to help you. If no one is available, you can call a professional organizer as well.

De-cluttering your house can be an emotional experience as well. You may find things to which you are emotionally connected. It isn't easy to throw those things which are associated with your past. But if someone will be there with you during the process. He will help you to see things through pragmatic eyes, and things will be easier for you. Knowing your situation, he can help you if you need a specific item or not.

One area at a time

Many people think that they can de-clutter the house in a single day, but that is not possible. You should start from the one area, either it's your bedroom, kitchen or even washroom. Do it one by one if you want to do it properly. Separate the things, items you want to keep, keep them properly. Things which you want to dispose of, throw them right away. Doing one area at a time will keep things simple for you.

Once you are done, you will find your house clean and welcoming for the festive season. It feels perfect when you have things in your house which you need. But the important thing is to think about de-cluttering and spare some time for the process. After cleaning, you will not get a clean house but peace of mind as well.
